RE: The tariff classification of string knit gloves from China.

Dear Ms. Cheng:

In your letter dated November 28, 2008, written on behalf of your client, Oriental Exports, you requested a classification ruling. The samples you submitted will be returned as you requested.

You have submitted three samples of string knit gloves. No style numbers were provided. You state that all three gloves are constructed of 60% cotton and 40% polyester knit fabric. The gloves feature a ribbed knit wrist with an overlock stitch finish at the bottom opening.

The applicable subheading for the gloves will be 6116.92.8800, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for gloves, mittens and mitts, knitted or crocheted: other: of cotton: other: other: without fourchettes. The duty rate will be 9.4% ad valorem.

The gloves falls within textile category 331. With the exception of certain products of China, quota/visa requirements are no longer applicable for merchandise which is the product of World Trade Organization (WTO) member countries. Quota and visa requirements are the result of international agreements that are subject to frequent renegotiations and changes. To obtain the most current information on quota and visa requirements applicable to this merchandise, we suggest you check, close to the time of shipment, the “Textile Status Report for Absolute Quotas” which is available on our web site at www.cbp.gov. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
